Richard Nixon didn't have the corner on life changing decisions in the 1970's. In fact, Judith Dacey, a native of the Buckeye state decided there was no logical reason to wait for age 60 to enjoy life in the land of warm sunshine and salt scented breezes. So she packed her treasures and migrated to the sunshine state - Florida. She says it's the best move she ever made. In the 70's, Florida was renowned for more than just it's sunshine. It was also the winter home of indoor/outdoor entertainment. With her strong sense of self-confidence and contagiously outgoing personality, Judith was a natural at entertainment promotion. So during the majority of the year, she traveled the country promoting events that ranged from tent circuses with elephants and acrobats to stage shows featuring country music stars and magicians. She lived the life many of us can only dream about, experiencing the thrill of the stage and the excitement of life on the road. She wrote a book on how to successfully break into the field of entertainment promotion. In fact, it was the only one of its kind. But even the excitement and adventure of being a road warrior wears thin after a while and on the morning of her 30th birthday Judith found herself sitting on a park bench in Indianapolis, reflecting on the past decade and trying to envision the next. Things were changing; the new generation wanted their entertainment glitzy and choreographed to the level of a Cecil B. DeMille movie production. With expenses increasing and revenue decreasing, Judith's keen business savvy told her it was time to pack the memories away in her hope chest and get on with life. What happened next came as a real shock, even to her. She joined the establishment and did what her parents had always hoped she'd do, get a college degree and live a normal life. In 1980, she graduated summa cum laude from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. After passing her CPA exam on the first sitting and also passing her CMA tests (Certified Management Accountant), she decided to temper the predictability of the establishment with the excitement of entrepreneurship and started her own CPA firm. She soon became known as 'the CPA with personality.' Today, Judith is a nationally recognized business consultant with over 20 years experience as a tax practitioner, advisor, and professional speaker. Her North Central Florida based company, J.D. Sumter & Associates, Inc. focuses solely on assisting entrepreneurs in the startup and early development stage of their businesses, and real estate investors. J.D. Sumter & Associates, Inc. |
